ChIN as an Internet Chemistry Web Guide

1997: With the recognition of Internet as a new powerful media for chemical information and communication, ChIN Web site was created to promote ChIN's activities and to help chemists making use of Internet chemistry resources with co-support of UNESCO Offices, Jakarta and Beijing in 1997. ChIN site serves not only as an archive of ChIN's symposia (including scientific programs, paper abstracts, participants lists and reports on the symposia) as well as introductions to ChIN, but also, even more importantly, as a web-based guide for chemical resources on Internet.

ChIN-Manager: A completely new version of ChIN site (http://www.chinweb.com.cn/) started running on Internet since May 2000 that was accessible both in Chinese and English. Resource descriptions were edited with the aid of a specific tool ChIN-Manager, by which automatic generation of the whole guide was made possible since then.

2002 - : The construction of ChIN site was fully enhanced as the Chemistry Portal, Chinese National Science Digital Library (CSDL) since 2002. The major features such as Resources categorization according to chemistry disciplines, automatic Subject/keywords searching in summary pages and cross links among the closer related summary pages were implemented since then. More over, the resource selection policies and organization guidelines (in Chinese) were published in ChIN site in hope that users could gain better understanding of how chemical resources are selected and organized, so as to make the best use of ChIN. The resources selection policies and organization guidelines of ChIN were adopted by 5 Hot Topic Portals of NSTL, China's National Science and Technology Library, launched in 2005.
